ResumoA S THE URBAN POPULATION swells and the cities spread outward and merge into megalopoles, the inhabitants of our central cities become physically and temporally more distant from the nation's remaining recreation areas. When the more affluent leave the central city for the suburbs, those who are taking their place generally do not possess sufficient resources to transport themselves to the recreation areas which are being pushed farther away by sprawling development in the suburbs. Several recent community action committee reports list the lack of adequate recreation facilities as a major reason why ghetto residents feel they have been isolated from society as a whole.'
