Abstract Chamaecin was confirmed to be 4 ‐isopropylsalicylaldehyde by comparison with the synthetic compound, which was prepared by the oxidation of carvacrol methyl ether with manganese dioxide in 30% sulfuric acid followed by the hydrolysis with alumnium bromide incarbon disulfide solution.
