On reviewing the literature we could find but few references concerning this morbid state. Most authors fail to mention that jaundice may be intense in brucellosis and, if it does occur, they attribute it to some cause other than hepatitis.Hughes1in 1897 stated: "The liver is often tender to pressure and slightly enlarged downward in severe cases at an early stage and also towards the end of prolonged attacks when from continued back pressure it has become somewhat nutmeg in character."
