ResumoThis essay is based on a speech delivered to participants of a workshop on digital photography at the ESEC – Escola Superior de Educacao de Coimbra, in 2002. When me and my collegues made plans for the workshop we realized that our interests, attitudes and ideas on the subject of digital image were quite different from one another. We did not even speak the same language when talking about them, our categories were others. Thus we decided that the best way of dealing with that problem, and on the same time providing opportunity for an open dialogue, was not to give just one, but three diferent introductions. So we talked about the digital photography and the market, the digital photography and education and the digital photography and the arts. The present text clearly focusses on the last of these areas. It intends an inquiry of the strange observation that in spite of all that new media there are very few new images.
