ResumoIn the current situation of public administration, which is increasingly working with limited resources and in a society which is more and more demanding, public administrators are highly concerned about the existence of a more efficient control of the entities whose administration is under their responsibility. This control should be less bureaucratic and more focused on the quality of government performance, striving for the best and most suitable functioning of the organs inspected. Therefore, there is the need for Internal Control, which, if well structured and able to get the information to perform the necessary evaluations, may be able to prevent irregularities and achieve the goals of protecting public goods, becoming an effective tool in combating fraud and error, and contributing to public management, demonstrating, this way, economy, efficiency and effectiveness.
