El presente trabajo trata de averiguar el papel de la cultura islamica en el proceso urbanistico y su influencia en la organizacion del espacio urbano en la ciudad. Se realiza un estudio general sobre la ciudad islamica, su modo de formacion y las teorias que se han elaborado sobre su aparicion y se analiza el espacio urbano: su concepto, sus caracteristicas, sus funciones simbolicas y la relacion de todo esto con la filosofia de la vida en el Islam. El estudio ha reflejado que la ley islamica, a traves de sus reglas -al-fikh- constituye una base comun que regulaba el entorno fisico y la organizacion espacial en todas las ciudades islamicas de diferentes partes, y que es el factor principal en la aparicion de estas similitudes impresionantes, a pesar de las diferencias climaticas y geograficas. Consideramos que las reglamentaciones urbanas islamicas relacionadas con el principio de la intimidad, la ley hereditaria y el uso del fina' constituyen los verdaderos elementos organizadores del espacio urbano en la ciudad islamica. Abstract: This work endeavours to investigate the role of Islamic culture in the process of urbanization and its influence on the organization of urban space in cities. It is a general study into the origin and foundation of Islamic cities and the theories regarding its appearance and it analyzes the basic concept, characteristics and symbolic functions of urban space and these in relation to Islam's philosophy of life. The study has revealed that Islamic law, through its al-fikh rules, forms a common base which has regulated the physical surroundings and spatial organization of all Islamic cities in different areas, and that is the main factor in the existence of impressive similarities despite climatic and geographical differences. We consider that the Islamic urban regulations related to the principle of intimacy, the inheritance law and the use of fina form the true organizational elements of urban space in Islamic cities.
