Resumo

his article aims to present the results of a survey to identify the potential for income generation that ecotourism has in protected areas, in order to selfsustainability. The study can be characterized as a descriptive case study which aims to identify some characteristics that make up the sustainability of Caracol State Park, which is analyzed in more depth some aspects of their economic selfsustainability. Data collection consisted of a literature review, consultation with specialist sites, examination of documents, telephone conversations, one on-site visit with observation and notes and a non-structured interviews with the administrator, in May 2010. To determine the value of tourism resource and identification of economic self-sustainability were collected documentary evidence of income, expenses and income figures searched tickets of the years 2008 and 2009 and made financial calculations of the value of the resource from a rate applicable income.
