Resumo

Between 1996 and 1998 French rap was renewed under the influence of newcomers, the two most important appearing to be Booba of the Lunatic group, and Ill, of X-Men , both members of the collective Time Bomb . These rappers seem to have no regard for the French literary heritage, and present their rap as “stupid and evil”. How do these two rappers distqnce themselves from legitimate culture, and how does their stance change French rap? Through a prosodic revolution doubling as an aesthetic promotion of hostility, Time Bomb rap strips the creative act of its respectability. This new French rap seems to break with the dedicated forms and values of art in order to produce a shock to the listener by means of a figural gap through which the rapper, making the criminal his double, considerably blurs the boundaries between the biographical and the fictional as well as between literal and metaphor.
