ResumoThis paper reports 18 cases of peripheral ossifying fibroma (FOP) diagnosed in the Oral Lesions Reference Center, Feira de Santana State University, during the period from 2002 to 2008. To describe the relationship between sociodemographic data with the FOP, the Statistical Package for Social Science - SPSS, version 10.0 for Windows (1998) was used. The disease was more prevalent on non-white females in their fourth decade of life. The upper anterior gingiva was the most affected region. It is important to clinicians to know the clinical characteristics of FOP for proper diagnosis.
