The practice-oriented development needs solid theoretical foundations but at the same time requires finding a reasonable compromise between different tasks such as learning, programming, making research, and so on, as available resources are always limited. The MOR for ANSYS related research is practice oriented. This means that the main goal is to solve a particular engineering problem that requires a compact model derived from a finite element model. It is important to remember that model reduction is not new for finite elements. Methods such as modal superposition, Guyan reduction, or component mode synthesis (CMS) are known for ages among mechanical engineers. The chapter also discusses programming issues and open problems related to the MOR.
