This is probably due to antibiotic-resistant organisms and cross infection.3, 4, 5 Although statistics of incidence and mortality are difficult to evaluate and require further investigation, antibiotic resistance of the staphylococcus has been clearly demonstrated after each new antibacterial agent has come into common use.3, 6 Clinical surveys indicate that the mortality rate of generalized infections was reduced from over 80% to 28% following the introduction of penicillin, rose subsequently to 54%, and at present is as high as in the pre-antibiotic era.4The complications...Bibliography1.
