ResumoThe bacterium, lactobacillus, is found in the mucosal surfaces of the mouth and the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts. There have been increasing reports of the micro-organism being a cause of serious infection in immunocompromised individuals. This article reviews the clinical presentation, laboratory characteristics and treatment of patients with lactobacillemia.
