Resumo

The following study was developed to explore the role adjustment of single parent fathers with dependent children. A structured questionnaire was administered to forty fathers who were either divorced or widowed and had at least one child under eighteen years of age residing with them. Indications of changes in father's responsibility in areas of home management and child care were sought as well as the alteration of activities and relationships with others since becoming single parents. The results indicatedfathers faced role adjustment in areas of home management and child care, curtailed former social activities, and shifted toward new relationships involving other single parents.
