ResumoCollaboration within the recording studio has moved through different modes of development since the early 1900s. This process represents the development of the recordist from entrepreneur to collaborative artist. In this article I explore the progress of the collaborative role between the studio recordist and theartist. By examining the recording processes of new ‘retro-sonic’ rock music, I document an example of the contemporary roles of studio recordists, and explore modes of both traditional and more sophisticated recording methods and evolving processes of collaboration.
