ResumoAn understanding of the normal anatomy of the carpal tunnel and a variety of associated anomalies is important for the physician treating carpal tunnel syndrome. There are many strong arguments for open surgical decompression of the median nerve where full visualization of the transverse carpal ligament and contents of the carpal tunnel can be expected. The authors describe their preferred operative technique and post-operative management for carpal tunnel release.
