Resumo

Gender-stereotyped values and traits of female leaders. The main goal of the present study is to investigate if gender-stereotyped traits and values can explain the rarity of women in leadership positions. Participants in this research (35 leaders and 191 subordinates; 35 work teams) should evaluate themselves through 18 traits and 18 values. Results show differences between female leaders and subordinates. Especifically, female leaders prefer traits and values of masculine dimension of gender stereotypes, as compared to female subordinates. These results are discussed with relation to psychosocial literature. Finally, some ways to improve the access of women to managerial positions are proposed.
