The coup leaders hid behind terrorism and the political and economic crisis that Spain was experiencing at the time. That coup was but another among the many that were plotted against the Democratic Transition and led by Major General Luis Torres Rojas. He was a soldier of Falangist ideology, devoted to the figure of General Franco. However, the government placed him at the head of the most important unit of the army, the DAC, whose regiments were around Madrid and could surround and take the capital without difficulty. During his period of command in the DAC, he made significant errors of personal discipline without the government daring to stop him. He was only fired once the government knew reliable information about the coup that he was plotting in 1979. His attitude and his conduct are representative of the military archetype that openly opposes the government and the king to halt political changes
