Resumo

The distribution of Chazara briseis (Linnaeus, 1764) (Nymphalidae, Satyrinae) ranges from North Africa across southern and central Europe (south of 52° 30' N. Lat.) eastwards to the Pamirs, Tian Shan and Altai mountains in Central Asia (Higgins & Riley 1980, Lukhtanov & Lukhtanov 1994), and is regarded by Varga (1977) as a Holomediterranean-Turkestanian faunal element. The population studied here is situated close to the northern border of the species' range. In Germany, C. briseis is listed in all relevant regional Red Data Books in the categories "extinct", "in risk of extinction", or "highly endangered".
