ResumoMeasurements of more than 3000 emmetropic and ametropic eyes have shown that in medium and high myopia the lengthening of the vitreous is the refraction-determining factor. In emmetropes and myopes the mean values of corneal curvature are equal (7.8 mm). Lenticular refractive power in myopia is distinctly diminished as compared with emmetropic eyes (process of emmetropization).Assessment of intraocular optics by ultrasound echometry enables the ophthalmologist to prescribe contact lens — spectacle combinations or intraocular lens — spectacle combinations in unilateral aphakia or planned unilateral pseudophakia of myopes, in order to avoid the obstacles of aniseiconia.
