Abstract The participation of chain transfer reactions in the polymerization of vinyl chloride in solutions has been elucidated. Isopropyl chloride, 2,4‐dichloropentane, and 2,4,6‐trichloroheptane were used as solvents. The transfer constants for the solvents were determined ( C a at 50°C. for dimer and trimer equals to 5 × 10 −4 ), which allows estimation of the value of chain transfer with polyvinyl chloride molecules in solution.
