ResumoObjective: describing the experiences of strategic actions of health promotion developed within the territory of Centros de Atencao Psicossocial (CAPS) in the town of Sao Lourenco do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul State. Methodology: this article reports the experiences of strategic actions of health promotion developed within the territory of the CAPS in the town of Sao Lourenco do Sul after the flooding occurred in March 2011. This report was divided into three topics which included: the history of the flooding and its consequences; the actions to health promotion developed after the flooding; and the challenges or potentialities faced by health care group. Results and Discussion: to consolidate actions for intersectoral health promotion it was necessary to understand the needs of the population and most importantly to map the territory where these people lived. Going into the territory made us realize that those affected by the flooding should be seen not only as ill people but that another way of viewing them was necessary. Conclusion: considering that trauma was a part of those people lives experiences, the territory became a network with a new and alert view to health promotion in search of new perspectives of life, emerging new flows and ways which created a welcoming network. Descriptors: Health promotion; Mental health; Intersectorial action.
