Resumo

Objective: To investigate some of the risk factors related to oral squamous cell carcinoma in a community northeast of low income in a population of adults aged 35 to 44 years and elderly over 65 years. Methods: Completed questionnaires concerning sun exposure, alcohol consumption and smoking. was applied. A pilot study was done, previously. The independent and dependent variables investigated were gender, age, smoking, drinking alcohol and frequency of sun exposure. Results: It was observed that there is a leadership of men in alcohol consumption (85%) than women (44.55%), despite having significantly increased the number of consumers. Regarding sun exposure was observed higher rate of adults exposed to the sun. Conclusion: We found a large exposure of individuals to some of risk factors for development of oral squamous cell carcinoma, and it's necessary to recast the public service, directing health actions to adult and elderly.
