O presente trabalho visa mostrar como a intertextualidade se configura em O no-me da rosa de Umberto Eco, a partir de uma “estrategia retorica e cognitiva” (CAPOZZI, 1998) e do que o proprio Eco chama de double coding, metanarratividade, citacionismo e iro-nia intertextual. Lido como um romance policial ou um romance historico, o livro apresenta uma sofisticada hibridizacao de generos e uma complexa rede de citacoes extraidas de inume-ras obras literarias, concretizando o sentido da estetica literaria pos-moderna. THE WORLD’S LABYRINTH: INTERTEXTUALITY AND POST-MODERNISM IN UMBERTO ECO’S THE NAME OF THE ROSE The present work aims at showing how, in The Name of the Rose, the intertex-tuality takes a shape as “a rhetorical and cognitive strategy” (CAPOZZI,1998), departing from some concepts that Eco himself calls double coding, intertextual irony, quoting, metafic-tion. Written as a suspense novel as well as a historic novel, The Name of the Rose unveils a sophisticated blending of literary genres and a complex network of quotations taken from a various literary works, expressing, in this way, the fundamental characteristics of the post-modern aesthetics.
