ResumoThis study analyzes the tales “A noite” and “Horla” written by Guy de Maupassant. The aim is to highlight outstanding features that may be established in the comparison of both tales, such as the role of the narrator – both autodiegetic and seized with a great fear at the end –, the function of each narrator over his narrative, and the remarkable differences between the two tales. Besides, despite of all pointed differences and without intending to diminish the contrasts, the singular similarities deserve attention. Thus, Genette’s study about the narrative and Ceserani and Todorov's theories about the Fantastic was used on this work as a basis for the discussion on focus that considers for both tales the dimension of the Fantastic belonging to the subjectivity, aspect aided by the presence of autodiegetic narrators.
