Installing Python and getting it running is the first step. These days, it should be very easy. If you are running Gentoo GNU/Linux, you already have Python 2.4 installed. The packaging system for Gentoo, Portage, is written in Python. If you don't have it, your installation is broken. If you are running Debian GNU/Linux, Ubuntu, Kubuntu or MEPIS, simply run the following (or log in as root and leave out sudo):
