Resumo

An anatomic study of the arrangements configured by nerves of the brachial plexus was carried out in turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo). Thirty adult female turkeys were used. Animals were obtained from Sadia refrigerator at Chapeco, Santa Catarina State, Brazil. After fixation in 10% formaldeyde aqueous solution, the bilateral dissection of the origin of the brachial plexus was carried out, as well as the distribution of the nerves to the muscles. The analysis permitted to determine that the brachial plexus has three stems that originate from the ventral branches of the cervical nerves 12 (C12) and 13 (C13), and from the ventral branches of the thoracic nerves 1 (T1) and 2 (T2) in 100% of the cases in both antimers. In the right antimer, the subescapular, supracoracoid, and subcoracoespacular nerves leave from the first nervous root (40%), whereas the remaining (60%) leave from the cranial border of the nervous cord. In the left antimer these nerves leave from the first nervous root (20%) and from the cranial border of the dorsal cord (80%). In both antimers, the first stem originated in C12, and the second in C13 (100%), giving origin to the dorsal cord, from where leave the axilar, radial, and anconeal nerves (100%). The third stem arises exclusively from T1 in both antimers (100%). The ventral cord originates from it, and gives origin to bicipital, medianoulnar, cutaneous, and peitoral nerves (100%). Filaments linked to T1 root leave T2, being one filament (13.33%); two filaments (66.66%); or three filaments (20%) in the right antimer, whereas in the left antimer we observed one filament (10%); two filaments (70%) or three filaments (20%).
