Resumo

In memory of Prof. Bairrão Oleiro whose humanistics ideals I will remember, with gratefulness, forever. The first pavements decorated with mosaics (and various others fragments) had been excavated in situ, during the last quarter of the last century, in Lisbon. The author introduces the reader, in this paper, to the study (first part) of her investigation on the Roman mosaics brought to light in Lisbon Down-Town (mosaics from the excavations at Rua dos Correeiros and Banco Comercial Português, with an attributed chronology to the 2nd century A. D. up to the middle of the third).A second paper will follow, in the future, with the results of the inves tigation on other mosaics from the Roman city of Lisbon.
