Resumo

Abstract Some constituents and structures in the mixtures obtained by reaction of oxygen with model compounds of 1,4‐polyisoprene in the presence of phenylhydrazine ( 1 ) could be identified. Accelerated oxidation of monomeric units 2 of 1,4‐polyisoprene by phenyl radical generation (reaction of 1 with oxygen) and in situ decomposition of hydroperoxides, allow to explain the formation of epoxidized and hydroxylated units which were identified. Identification of phenylsubstituted alcohols and phenyl ketones leads to the proposition of a chain cleavage process involving the addition of phenyl radicals to the double bonds of 2 . No more carbonyl compounds or structures resulting from peroxide decompositions by carbon‐carbon bond cleavage could be detected. The hypothesis of their transformation into phenylhydrazones, followed by oxidation and decompositions, is supported by indications of phenylazo structures, but has to be confirmed.
