ResumoThe theme of this text is the History of Music Education in Brazil in the Nineteenth-century.His rationale is to present some data that allow discussing the consolidated memory that commonly takes this theme as a synonym of the project organized by Villa-Lobos, with choral music in public schools in the 1930s and 1940s, in spite of any past, contemporary or later historical experiences. Thus, the objective of this paper is to bring some results of research accomplished about the Lessons and the Masters of Music from College Pedro II (1838-1858) as counterpoints that allow analyzing the importance of their teaching in schools in Nineteenth-century and reflecting upon the research on the History of Music Education in Brazil.
