ResumoThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of various chemical agents on oral microorganisms. Microorganisms from supragingival biofilm was immerged in brain heart infusion (BHI) and distributed in plates containing agar-sanguis in contact with different solutions: 0.9% saline (control group), 0.053% Cetylpyridinium chloride (Oral-B - CPC group), 0.12% Chlorhexidine digluconate (Periogard - CPC /CLX group) and Cetylpyridinium + Chlorhexidine digluconate (Noplak Max - CPC/CLX group). The saline solution had no effect on bacterial growth. By comparison, the inhibition hales presented by CPC/CLX and other groups were similar. Thus, the combination of Cetylpyridinium chloride + Chlorhexidine digluconate inhibited the growth of microorganis- ms similar to these substances individually.
