ResumoIn a first survey of the snake fauna in the Ouro Branco region (20o31’14'’S – 43o41’29'’W), located in the south of Espinhaco Range, State of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil there were recorded 28 snake species, from 4 families and 21 genera. Colubridae was the most representative family, accounting for 78% of species, following the Viperidae family, with 14%. Elapidae and Leptotyphlopidae were represented each one by only one species (3.5%). Six clinically relevant venomous snakes were found: Bothrops alternatus, B. jararaca, B. neuwiedi, Crotalus durissus, Micrurus frontalis and Philodryas olfersii. Collection stations were the most efficient method for snake sampling, accounting for 68% of species recorded in this survey.
