Resumo

In this work, we use environmental isotopes δ 13 C and δ 15 N and the atomic C/N ratio of surface sediment collected at 20 points, with suspended sediment also collected at five points. We analyzed the δ 13 C CID of dissolved inorganic carbon and the δ 18 O, δD and salinity of water samples collected at the same 20 points in the Nova Vicosa – Caravels Estuary. This region is characterized by the influence of the entrance of the main channel in the estuary of Caravels and of the river Peruipe in Estuary Nova Vicosa. The highest values of δ 13 C CID in the sediment and of dissolved inorganic carbon in the water occur at Bar Caravels, and the highest values of TOC and C/N ratio occur in two of the channels between Caravels and Nova Vicosa. The isotopic ratio of carbon and nitrogen indicates that the organic matter analyzed comes from terrestrial material, and the study of mangrove estuaries did not demonstrate a significant impact of pollution from urban runoff on the Nova Vicosa – Caravels Estuary.
