Avian ecology and behavior

The bird collection at the Transvaal Museum (TMSA), Pretoria, South Africa, includes 256 holotypes, 160 syntypes and 124 paratypes of 313 avian taxa. A systematic list, with notes on the current status of these taxa, is presented. Data on syntypes and paratypes at other institutions are given. Restricted type localities are suggested for Dendroperdix sephaena mababiensis Roberts, 1932, Phoeniculus purpureus brevirostris (Gunning and Roberts, 1911), Centropus pymi Roberts, 1914, Neafrapus boehmi sheppardi (Roberts, 1922), Glaucidium capense rufum Gunning and Roberts, 1911, Afrotis afroides mababiensis Roberts, 1932 and Prinia subflava pondoensis Roberts, 1922.
