Resumo

The paper deals with the study of the strategies developed by spanish political parties during government formation processes at national level. Starting from the discussion on the goals pursued by parties, we analize the strategies leading to reduce costs and increase benefits in the socalled processess. Thus, we observe that the absence of coalition governments in Spain is due to strategic calculus, that deny the usual assumptions accepted by formal theories of political coalitions.
