ResumoThis work presents a deduction of the Breit-Rabi equation for Cesium 133. This equation describes the dependence of the Zeeman energy levels for the ground state respect to an external and constant magnetic field. First, the dipolar magnetic interaction potential is written in a convenient way, that is in terms of the well know angular momentum operators, so the matrix elements can be determined for the potencial operator. Afterwards, the eigenvalues equation associated to the matrix is solved, that is, the solutions for the secular equation are calculated. Once the Breit-Rabi equation is found, an expression for the external magnetic field is easy to obtain and to write as a function of the energy differences, or in terms of the transition frequencies. By using this result, the external magnetic field in the CENAM’s frequency primary standard based on an optically pumped thermal cesium beam has been calculated, as well the frequency shift of the transition 0
