Resumo

The case of an adult female of two-toed-sloth (Choloepus sp.), victim of running over is described. The animal had jaw fracture and loss of part of the tongue, which hampered their food. Remained under care for ten months, during which treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory were needed and whose doses used were effective. After clinical recovery of the initial condition, the animal still refused any solid food and for three months was fed daily with a liquid diet based on fruits, vegetables, yogurt, ground flaxseed, eggs, flowers and leaves. Gradually came to try to eat sprouts Cecropia sp. and only after eight months spent to feed relatively well alone. Although sloths are considered folivores, the individual has adapted well to the liquid diet, since during the whole process had normal stool consistency and good clinical condition. Despite having spent eight months to readjust to the absence of part of the tongue, it is concluded that all veterinary and feeding management was successful.
