Resumo

I was very interested in the 2 articles1,2 in the December 2010 issue of Ophthalmology reporting measurements of the anterior chamber depth (ACD) in normal eyes and cataract patients. I am surprised that these 2 articles appeared in the same issue with 2 totally different definitions of the same parameter (ACD). The first paper from Korea1 defines it incorrectly as "The ACD was measured as the distance between the corneal endothelium and the anterior surface of the IOL," while the second paper from China2 defines it correctly as "ACD, measured from the central anterior corneal epithelium to the anterior crystalline lens capsule." The former definition is that of the Aqueous Depth (AQD) and not the ACD, which includes the thickness of the cornea centrally.
