Embora Joao Cabral de Melo Neto tenha escrito sobre a cidade do Recife, identificando-se, por isso, como um poeta urbano, muito de sua experiencia com o seu estado natal advem do contato com a vida agraria, o que tambem resultou em boa parte de sua producao. Analisando o poema “Por que prenderam „o Cabeleira‟”, coligido no livro Agrestes, explora-se uma nova imagem do autor, espelhada pela figura de Cabeleira – simbolo seminal do discurso regionalista – encravado nos arredores das propriedades de sua familia. Embora o Cabeleira seja usualmente associado a Franklin Tavora, afigura-se a possibilidade de observar aquela persona historica e tambem o regionalismo sob uma nova perspectiva, em que elementos de localismo sao lidos pelo escopo da memoria familiar ao inves de tomar a personagem como indice de algum projeto estetico, solidamente enraizado na regiao. Although the Hair is usually associated with Franklin Tavora, there is a possibility of observing that historical persona and regionalism also under a new perspective, in which elements of localism are read by the scope of family memory rather than take the character as an index of some design aesthetic, solidly rooted in the region.
