ResumoThe acid extraction of heavy metals from four marine organisms for subsequent analysis by atomic absorption spectometry was investigated, with particular attention given to the effect on extraction efficiency of the acid mixture as well as the arnount of sample digested. It was found that the composition of the acid mixture used in the digestion has an important effect on the concentiation of metals measured. With the optimum conditions of extraction a study of the levels of Cu, Cr, Co, Cd, Ni, Mn, Fe, Pb and Zn, in the four filter feeden organisms ( Crassosfrea corteziensis, Mytcllo strigata, Zygomycalc parishii and Sigmadocia caerulia ) collected from the Harbor and Bay of Mazatlan were analysed.
