Resumo

The use of heritage always arouses feelings shared in the present and lived mutually in the past by social groups. Such a characteristic turns heritage into a reference for the development of identities and feelings of belonging, limiting territories and setting the frontiers between the equal and the different. However, when the adjectives 'national natural' are added to the idea of heritage, numerous tensions arise in the definition of the criteria for the establishing of what would be 'national natural'. The current article presents the origins of some of these tensions; problems existing in the possible criteria to define 'national natural'. Also, it reflects upon the use of nature as a support for the definition of national identities.
