A iconografia vem do grego e significa escrever, comunicar-se, por meio de imagens. Dessa forma, a arte sacra usa sua linguagem para exprimir em obras humanas a beleza infinita do sagrado, converter as mentes humanas para o sagrado. O conhecimento religioso por meio da arte acontece pelo caminho da beleza. Esse caminho nao e somente meio de expressao, mas tambem e fonte de fe, reflexao teologica e importante instrumento para a educacao. O presente artigo, por meio de uma pesquisa bibliografica-qualitativa, pretende fazer uma reflexao a respeito da influencia das religioes e da religiosidade dos individuos no uso e desenvolvimento da arte ao longo da historia. Os principais autores que serviram de referencial teorico para a pesquisa foram Gombrich, Tommaso, Matos, Scomparim, Suaiden e Costa e Passos. Os resultados da pesquisa apontam que o ser humano, por estar na condicao carnal, necessita da materialidade das coisas para expressar-se em todas as suas formas, inclusive, na sua fe. Os espacos sagrados e a arte surgem para suprir essa demanda pela realidade material para comunicar o misterio do sagrado tornando a arte um dos principais meios de expressao e educacao para a fe. Thus, the sacred art uses its language to express in human works the infinite beauty of the sacred, convert human minds to the sacred. Religious knowledge through art happens in the way of beauty. This way is not only a means of expression, but it is also a source of faith, theological reflection and important tool for education. This article, through a literature-qualitative research, intends make to reflection about the influence of religion and religiosity of individuals in the use and development of art throughout history. The main authors who served as the theoretical framework for the study were Gombrich, Tommaso, Matos, Scomparim, Suaiden, Costa and Passos. The survey results indicate thatthe human, to be in the carnal condition, needs the materiality of things to express itself in all its forms, including in their faith. The sacred spaces and art come to meet this demand by material reality to communicate the mystery of the sacred making art a major means of expression and education to faith. Keywords : Sacred art.
