ResumoOperations Research, management science, and economics analyses have frequently been conducted in the area of sports. Not surprisingly, DEA has also been used frequently in sports. These applications provide convenient and accurate data that a broad audience can understand. As such it provides a useful pedagogical tool for explaining DEA as well as demonstrating methodological extensions and implications. This chapter uses DEA to provide insights into the debate of who had the most dominant baseball batting season: Babe Ruth or Barry Bonds. The analysis highlights important characteristics of DEA such as the ability to adjust to changing operating conditions.
