No ano de 1911 o professor Orestes Guimaraes foi contratado pelo governo do Estado de Santa Catarina para modernizar a instrucao publica catarinense nos moldes da reforma paulista, na epoca considerada vanguarda no campo educacional. Com a sua reforma, Guimaraes prometeu proporcionar aos professores da rede publica as estruturas objetivas capazes de assegurar as condicoes para a producao e para o exercicio de uma nova cultura escolar, sintonizada com as referencias na epoca consideradas importantes para o progresso e a civilizacao do povo. Ele redesenhou a Escola Normal e a escola primaria, criando condicoes para a consolidacao de um sistema de ensino e a construcao de um orgânico sistema de pensamento, identificado com determinados interesses da sociedade brasileira no periodo republicano. Foram privilegiadas nesta pesquisa fontes documentais e bibliograficas, tendo como fio condutor da analise a teoria “disposicionalista da acao”, de Bourdieu, e o conceito de processo civilizador de Norbert Elias. Abstract: In the year of 1911, teacher Orestes Guimaraes was hired by the government of the State of Santa Catarina to modernize the catarinense public instruction in the molds of Sao Paulo reform, at that time considered vanguard in the educational field. With his reform, he promised to provide to the teachers of the public system the objective structures capable to assure the conditions for the production and for the exercise of a new school culture, tuned with the references considered at that time important for the progress and the civilization the people. He changed the Normal School and the elementary school, creating conditions for the consolidation of an education at system and construction of an organic thought system, identified with certain interests of the Brazilian society in the republican period. Were privileged in this research documental and bibliographical the sources tends as conductive thread to analyze the theory disposicionalist of the action , by Bourdieu and the concept of civilizator process by Norbert Elias.
