ResumoAs reconfiguracoes vividas atraves das fronteiras, tanto reais quanto simbolicas, implicam na revisao de identidades fixas, antes mais enraizadas em contextos nacionais. A sobrevivencia em uma terra estrangeira, muitas vezes hostil aos imigrantes, recoloca em pauta – para as personagens do filme Terra estrangeira, de Walter Salles e Daniela Thomas, e de outras narrativas cinematograficas e literarias – as ambivalencias constituintes da identidade nacional brasileira diante dos impasses da globalizacao, bem como o fenomeno dos redirecionamentos de fluxos migratorios, ou seja, a passagem da “vocacao receptora” do Brasil, historicamente “destino de povos” imigrantes, para a posicao de “grande pais exportador” de sujeitos que procuram refazer a vida no exterior, sofrendo e gozando as consequencias do desterro. TOCCATA AND FUGUE FOR TWO PEOPLE LOST IN FOREIGN LAND(S) Life reconfigurations beyond borderlines, both real and symbolic, imply a revision of fixed identities, which used to be mostly rooted in national contexts. Survival in a foreign land, very often hostile to immigrants, brings again to the fore, for the characters of Brazilian movie Terra estrangeira (Foreign Land), and for other literary and cinematography characters as well, national Brazilian identity ambivalent components before globalization and the reconfigurations in the migratory flow. This option highlights the passage from Brazil as a land which traditionally receives immigrants to the position of a country from which people emigrate in search of better life conditions abroad. These people both suffer and enjoy the consequences of being on exile.
