ResumoSuccess in business depends generally on: ★ the commercial or entrepreneurial acumen of the man at the top; ★ a good product that people want; ★ an ability to choose, stretch and develop managers; ★ a knowledge of the management techniques appropriate to the needs of the particular company; and ★ a certain amount of good luck. Relative effectiveness in the first four areas will depend, in the medium and large companies, on a number of people and the size and complexity of the processes. In a smaller business, which i s usually less complex, the effectiveness is usually dependent on one or two people — the boss(es), the managing director(s).
