Resumo

The well-known dramatic Ramesseum is studied anew. The find context is discussed in order to gain some understanding of its background. It is proposed that most of the papyri found in the Ramesseum tomb were originally written in the area of the residence in the region of Memphis, Lisht, and the Fayyum. The collection grew over time. As for the papyrus itself, its different ways of reading are discussed. Sethe's original proposal to read it simply retrograde from left to right turns out to be the most plausible choice. Likewise, its overall interpretation as a play centering around the death of the old king and the accession of the new one as suggested by Sethe seems preferable to more recent interpretations linking it with the Sed festival.
