Resumo

Miss, when are you gonna read us a whole book? a frustrated ninth grader begged after I had read aloud the hooking chapter from yet another young adult novel. Because I was attempting to show the wide spectrum of books available in my reading-writing workshop for reluctant high school readers, I had been reading aloud enticing chapters for weeks. These chapters included several from Gary Paulsen's novels The Monument, Canyons, Tracker, The Crossing, Hatchet, The River, and Popcorn Days and Buttermilk Nights. Other chapters came from Robert Cormier's We All Fall Down, Joan Lowery Nixon's The Other Side of Dark, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor's Send No Blessings, and several from R.L. Stine's Fear Street Series books. This teen's question made me realize I was overdoing a good thing.
