Resumo

Abstract The previously available overall rate data for the H 2 NO reaction have been re-examined in the light of new data on elementary reaction steps, with numerical integration of the governing differential equations. The reaction HNO + NO = N 2 O + OH has been found to be an important, slow step. The calculated overall initial rate is approximately second order in NO and one-half order in H 2 , in agreement with most of the data. The overall rate is more or less proportional to the rate of the HNO + NO reaction, which has a rate constant of 10 12·3 ± 0·3 exp(− 26 000 ± 5 000)cm 3 /mole sec(800° − 1 060°C).
