ResumoThe frame of Titian’s Last Supper, which hangs on the walls of the Chapter House in San Lorenzo del Escorial Royal Monastery, illustrates the special characteristics of Spanish framing in the 17th century. Being promoted by the King himself both in the first place and when it was re-done, it shows the change in taste that affected the frame production in the second half of the 17th century. The involvement of highly qualified craftsmen in its design and the high esteem in which it was held from the moment of its production, make of this frame an artistic object of the first order. Taking into account that the picture continues to hang in the same monastery it was painted for and that the papers that document its production have been preserved, it can be stated that this frame is an exceptional source for the history of the frame in Spain.
