ResumoAbstract Millard's and LeMesurier's methods of cleft lip repair were compared by assessing the symmetry of six components of the repaired lip and nose of 100 children who were treated by the two methods. It was found that Millard's technique restores nostril height and the cupid's bow more effectively. LeMesurier's method, on the other hand, produces a better vermilion and philtral edge. These observations support the current view that no single method exists that is superior to any other. Rather, each has its advantages and disadvantages and, hence, may suit a particular type of defect. The Cleft Lip Component Symmetry Index (CLCSI) used in this study seems to be suitable for objective assessment of results of cleft lip repair.
